Train of Thought Tour

Train of Thought Tour was the world tour by progressive metal/rock band Dream Theater, promoting their seventh studio album. Using the now-familiar An Evening With Dream Theater format, playing lengthy shows with a surprisingly sharp emphasis on changing setlists and incorporating cover songs. Early on in the tour, the band performed Train of Thought from start to finish in its entirety. The tour began January 16, 2004 in Manchester, England and concluded September 22, 2004 in Monterrey, Mexico.〔(Dream Theater Concert Setlist )〕
Dream Theater also played a special show in Los Angeles on March 6, 2004 to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the release of When Dream and Day Unite. In the second set, Portnoy announced that they would be doing something special, and the band performed that album in its entirety. The band was then joined on stage for the encore by Charlie Dominici who sang To Live Forever, his favorite Dream Theater song, and Derek Sherinian who assisted in keyboards on Metropolis. It is reported that Kevin Moore was invited to join them, but refused. The band would later release this portion of the show as When Dream and Day Reunite official bootleg.〔(Dream Theater Prog Archives )〕

The tour culminated in a show at the Nippon Budokan Hall, the most famous concert venue in Asia, where many famous live albums had been recorded. The show was recorded for a live album, which was released in its entirety as Live at Budokan which was released on DVD on October 5, 2004. The show is known for its high quality and the DVD version sold very high, being certified Platinum by the RIAA.〔(RIAA Gold and Platinum Database )〕
Dream Theater planned to follow up the tour with a vacation. However, they jumped at an opportunity to open for the Progressive Rock band Yes on their 35th anniversary tour in North American summer tour August–September 2004.
